Race for the Conch 2011

Turks and Caicos Race for the ConchThe Turks and Caicos “Race for the Conch” 1-mile swim race will be held on Saturday, July 9 this year at Grace Bay Beach. Open water swim racing is an increasingly popular sport  worldwild,  and will be the newest Olympic event in London in 2012.

While fins, paddles, and wetsuits are not be allowed, swimmers may use goggles or scuba masks; snorkel are prohibited.

The race course is marked off via buoys, and the first half of the course runs west roughly parallel to the beach on Grace Bay. The second half of the course goes east back toward finish line roughly parallel to beach. A conch shell will be blown signaling the start.

Competitive and recreational swimmers are invited to the event. Here’s a link to online registration, and the Race for the Conch also has a Facebook page, too.
